Our mission

This year’s Flip 2020 game will allow us to gather the cement we need to rebuild Shuri’s laboratory. But what exactly is it? The goal is very simple. Two teams must compete to collect as many packages as possible. At first, the packages are placed at a certain rate on a conveyor (conveyor belt), but it does not move yet.

The team that will push the Articulated Plank actuator of their team’s colour will activate the conveyor in there direction. Every 30 seconds, the conveyor will change direction. Each team has the possibility to push the articulated plank to switch the direction of the conveyor 1 minute after it was activated. Attention! Each team only one chance to activate their plank.

That is not all! To help the teams be more efficient, they can activate 4 different types of actuators to maximize the amount of packages collected. The effects of each actuator lasts 20 seconds. It is possible to reactivate them 30 seconds after the previous one. The illuminated green LEDs indicate which bonus is in play.

The actuators

The chained ball actuator allows the team to  double the drop frequency of the game pieces.

The mushroom actuators increases the speed of the conveyor by 1.5 or 2 for 20 seconds.

A The Tornado actuator stops the conveyor for 10 seconds after it’s been pointed towards the conveyor for 3 seconds which leads to a pile up of game pieces on the conveyor.

The Arch actuator give a chance to either triple the fall rate of game pieces, either reduce by half the speed of the conveyor or drop a black piece worth 200 points which is 10 times more than the regular red game pieces (20 points). In order to activate it, the robot has to transport the roller to the other side of the arch. When the Arch is set to divide the speed by 2, the setting will last 30 seconds before the teams have to wait another 50 seconds before reactivating it.

CRC

The CRC competition is a multidisciplinary competition combining arts and languages with science. It includes several components: the manufacture of a kiosk, the design of a website, the production of an original video without forgetting the construction and programming of a robot that is the central element of competition. The latter therefore allows young people like us to gain experience in diversified skills and allows us to surpass ourselves by taking on several challenges.

Our roles in the competition:

Robot:

Our mandate, which is the turning point of the competition, is to build and program a robot in order to win the game of this year, Flip 2020.

Kiosk:

Our mission is to represent our college by building a captivating and original kiosk by using different materials and tools. It must also be a space where the Robot Clan can work on the robot.

Video:

Our task is to make a video of about ten minutes on the competition by explaining it in an innovative way by using techniques of media arts and cinematography.

Web site:

Our primary goal is to create an original and interesting website that will inform the public on the competition and on the evolution of our team.

3D design:

Our responsability is to produce and animate 3D drawings of the robot, the terrain of the game and the kiosk using Fusion 360 computer software.
